This is a record of work done for Advanced Production 2007:
Dog Film Production Journal Here - DONE! click here to watch "Dream Pup in Aisle 4" Oct 07 - animatic, modeling, schedule, and list of things other ppl can do. Nov 07 - youtube references Jan 13: I do not have the file with me, but the new ending of the film is the runt escaping with his brother and sister out into the wild, the wild being the charred desolate remains of earth. So not a totally miserable ending.
I've given the runt a makeover, making him slightly less cute, and more heartstring pulling:
The highlight on the fur can be elinamted by changing the global varibles in Shave and a Haircut so it does not get affected by all lights. But I've seperated out the geometry of the nose, lips and ears and given them sub surface scattering. If you watch Dream Pup, you'll see the skin is blocky and unsmoothed, I had made the mistake of giving the geometry fur before smoothing it.
Here's a preview of the cage with maya-generated glow on the bars. The bars were created using the lightning fx feature in maya. The glow and the light given off by the bars is connected to their movement, and the result is too flickery. The glow on the overhead light didn't render because the center of the lamp was not on camera. I'll fix both of these by doing the glow in post.
And last, but not least, I've given the tigers dynamic whiskers. I'm quite happy with how they turned out, they were done also using Shave and a Haircut. Because there are less than 20 hairs, the dynamics are calcuated fairly quickly.
Those eye gleams are final. In Dream Pup the dog's eyes were quite large but didn't have the proper reflection - I kept getting an improper reflection of the skin around the dog's eyes. I've elimnated that here, and now have more careful control of the rig and better consistency from shot to shot. I've got a low res, hairless rig for animating and the tricked out dynamic furred one for rendering. Before I render a shot I have to run the dynamics for the whiskers, but as long as I have the hair didden / camera minimized it doesn't take horribly long.
I'm working on building the sets now and finishing up random models, post them when I'm done.
